Both the ends are at right angle to each other so that with single 90 degree turn you can allow the flow of liquid.
This can be an alternative to any high pressure drop that is commonly found in any globe valve. The stem and seat are at 45-degree angle to each other and when it is fully opened it offers least amount of flow resistance. Normally for any throttling use during start up or seasonal operations this type is used.
